I'm wanting to box in an open staircase in the house I've just bought. We are getting new carpet fitted throughout the living room stairs and landing, and this is something we wanted to do eventually. But may as well do it now since we are going to be laying new carpet.

Took a screen grab from zoopla of the staircase. Does anyone know how much it would cost to put risers in between the stairs and also create a small cupboard underneath the stairs too?

We could do with the storage space for ironing board/hoover etc. So it's something we both thought to do when we first seen the house.

I don't mind the open staircase so much. But with now wanting to lay new carpet it would seem the best time to get this job done.

It's dead space like has been said. Ideally I want it to be boxed up and used as storage. I then want to have the TV put infront of the stairs and turn the sofa around to create more space in the middle of the living room.

Thinking in my Dad should be capable of boxing it in. The only tricky part if there are metal rods in between each stair which will need to be removed?

I'll only be boxing in under the staircase, leaving the staircase itself exposed

Just need risers inserted in between each stair as well
