Well seeing as I couldn't find a thread for this weekends boxing (2 big fights) I thought I may aswell create one to discuss the results.

Hopkins beat Tarver via UD
---------------------------
What a good performance from Hopkins, he looked really quite strong in there and if he really stepped it up a gear then he could have finished it towards the end of the fight. Tarver never really got going and seemed completely puzzled about everything. I thought Tarvers corner was really poor, not once did they say that he needed a knockout or anything like that.

Cotto beat Malignaggi via UD
----------------------------
A decent matchup and I only had Cotto up by 2 points. Cotto seemed to really struggle in there with a speedster and if Malignaggi had any power then Cotto would have been in real trouble. Cottos left hand seemed to get damaged at one point so that might keep him out of action for a while. His next fight really should be at 147lbs though

I thought Tarver would have done Hopkins, but the old timer proved he's still got the hunger and I wouldn't be surprised if he fought on.

As for Cotto, he was very lucky that Malignaggi can't punch and the fight was so close, that it could have gone either way.

Hopkins at 41!! what a athlete that guy is. knew he'd win, looked like he wanted it bad.

congrats to him. is he the first person to become champion at 2 weights above where they were champion before. if you know what i mean :p

Tarver was weight drained but I don't think that would have stopped Hopkins any way... Hopkins was just the better boxer... strong at 174 aswell.

tarver won't admit to being weight drained because it diminishes his one hit wonder RJJ claim to fame...

He managed to get down to 175, but he didn't manage to fill out at 175... he was hollow... where as Hopkins moved up at 174 and was 100% at the weight. Thats why I picked him... because tarver moved up to something like 240 to play games with Rocky Balboa... :p

I think quite a few have skipped a weight class and won a title (not sure about challenging the recognised #1 though).. Roy Jones Jnr is the most recent one that springs to mind when he beat Ruiz

both good scraps - enjoyed the cotto one and like said before - if Paulie could actually punch he would have had cotto in big big trouble.

Hatton would destroy cotto inside 6 rounds on that performance.

Cotto is also struggling to make the 140 limit - he entered the ring @ an estimated 158lb!!!
