Has anyone used it and does it make a big difference? I filled up with it yesterday, from totally empty, and it seems to make a difference, particularly in where you need to put the throttle for a steady speed, but only done 5-6miles so can't conclude anything. Anyone else had any experiences?

Dad filled up with some in the Panda a few weeks back, and it ran worse than it does on bog-standard Shell diesel. Even when we ran it on cruddy hypermarché diesel in France it ran better than on the BP Ultimate. Needless to say, Dad isn't planning on repeating the experiment any time soon....

Waste of money. I used to use it in my Passat when I had a fuel card but it had no benefits whatsoever. I maybe got a few miles more per tank but there was no performance advantage.

Your engine won't have even started using it yet in just 6 miles :p

Maybe not, but I had only a few litres in the tank, so it may have! I mean I put 62 litres in, and its only a 60 litre tank (presumably excluding the pipe).

I heard that in BP the ultimate and regular Diesel is pretty much exactly the same stuff.

Thats because bog standard Shell Diesel isn't bog standard. ;) Its Diesel Extra, replaced the bog standard Shell Diesel everywhere a few years ago now.

The availability is a bit random round here. When it's cold then the Diesel Extra seems to disappear (and they tape over Extra on the pump!). It's good stuff - smokes less when I hoof it and I get 2-3mpg more for the same price as regular diesel anywhere else. BP are generally expensive and the Ultimate range are overpriced. Local Shell is 96.9 for Extra, local BPs want 100.9 for Ultimate.

There is no difference between this and regular diesel in terms of performance.

Any savings you make from fuel consumption will most likely be cancelled out when you spend a little extra at the pump for it.

lol your engine will take at least a couple of tanks to adjust to it (for timings to readjust etc), and even then I doubt you will be able to notice the difference unless you have a 330d or something :p

I got a fair amount more miles in, dont think I noticed performance improvements. Just stick to normal diesel, 99.9pence is enough -.-

i'm in the middle of a test using bp ultimate diesel vs normal bp diesel.

When i picked my mondeo up 4 weeks ago, i stuck £50 of ultimate in and got well over 450 miles till the light came on, then i filled up with supermarket diesel and seemed to get less miles, so i decided i'm gonna do a test,, when the fuel light comes on, i'll fill up with ultimate again, (50 litres to make it fair) and run it till light comes on, then i'll stick normal diesel in and do the same, sams style driving, mixed 30 - 70 limits etc. Will let you know the difference

i do a lot of miles over the same roads and pretty sad in that i always zero the clock when i fill up :p Having tried most types of diesel in my area, i find that shell diesel extra gives me the best mpg, about 5-7 more than BP ultimate. And since shell doesn't sell 2 grades of diesel it's defintely better than BP ultimate price wise too.

I tried it when I had my 330d. It took 3 tanks before I noticed any difference but doing 120 a day to work and back it didn't take long to empty the tank. Until the 3rd tank went in the econemy was slightly down but the engine ran marginally better, the 3rd saw an increase in mpg over the original by about 3mpg and the engine ran and sounded better. At the time Shell Extra wasn't available in my area so didn't try it in the 330d but the Mondeo ST TDCI prefers shell over everything else.
