Bracketing

Hello,

Can someone please explain to me what the term bracketing means, i have heard it on a few threads when people are posting photos they have taken.

Please explain,

I've always done bracketing the hard way - by setting a camera metered setting of f/8, and 1/250 to 1/250 f13 and 1/250 f/5.6 say. Or by setting the shutter to 1/1000 or 1/125 say - depending what kind of effect I want to achieve. But both my cameras have exposure compensation on them and I have never used them.

only recently figured out how to bracket on my 350D
