If you have a PSU which is 100% modular, can you use the braided cable extensions straight from the PSU itself? If not, are there many PSU's on the market which have single braided cables?

No, most manufacturers of PSUs use different Pin orders on their PSUs, which is very annoying. (but the motherboard end is always the same, making it much easier to make / buy extensions.

Often they vary from PSU to PSU.
My Silverstone ST1000 doesn't have the same pin order as my Silverstone NightJar PSU for example.
And my Corsair AX1200i is totally different again.

Corsair have a braided cable set in various different colours.

But generally you're looking at 3rd party cables, which someone may have to make to order.

I have a Cooler Master G650M and I don't want to spend £70+ to change the cables on it. I'd rather buy a more expensive PSU when I switch over to Intel once Skylake is released.

That's the problem with these cable set's, they are stupidly expensive and can cost as much as, if not more, than the psu itself. I understand the fact that they take time to make but I really don't see the point. I look at my monitor not what is going on inside my case.

You won't be getting anything cheap then, and as above they aren't a great value/money proposition

You could look at extensions which attach on to the end of your current PSU cables (Cablemods released some custom sets recently, or there are Bitfenix and Silverstone extensions also available)

I understand where you're coming from, but I also thought they'd be better for cable management since most of them are flat. I'm going to upgrade to something that's fully modular once I switch over to Intel.

I wasnt that keen on the corsair flat cables that came with my old hx 850. So i purchased a set of the modular cables in blue. The braiding was very stiff and not much easier to route than the standard cables.
