Brake Disc Thickness

I'm really struggling to find the thickness at which my brake discs should be replaced.

The Vauxhall TIS CD says: Max 26mm Min 24.9mm.

However, there is some confusion as to whether these values were actually incorrectly copied from the Elise details, which were themselves reproduced incorrectly for 5 years!

I am more inclined to think they are actually 25mm from standard, as most of the aftermarket discs seem to be. One set of aftermarket discs say they should be replaced at 23mm another set 21mm (which sounds a LOT of wear).

No one seems to know the correct answer to this, the discs are the same as standard Vectra ones.

The thicknesses of mine are:

23.24mm front, 23.60mm rear

i just go by how much of a lip there is. (usually takes 2 sets of pads)

That's not an accurate measure though and doesn't tell you anything more that how much they have worn, not how much they have left to go.

They have done 36.6k, though I know some people who have got onto their third set of disks at 13k!

I work in a motorfactors,

Quinton Hazel say: Thickness 25, Min 22
Brakeworld (budget brand but fairly decent): Thickness 25, Min 23
Mintex: Thickness 25, Min 21
AMK: Thickness 25, Min 23
Brake Engineering: Thickness 25, Min 22
APEC: Thickness 25, Min 21

And yeah, the discs are the same as a Vectra B 2.0 - 2.6

I'd usually charge trade prices even to the public (lots of competition around here)...

BW - £14.50 each (inc VAT)
QH - £35.00 each (inc VAT)
APEC - £27.50 each (inc VAT)

Thats the only prices I have on saturdays as all the suppliers close half day.

(mods: im not interested in selling, my boss is rich enough)

They are just all standard vented discs. I would imagine most motorfactors would charge similar prices.

You havent specified front or rear or are they not different? Does your TIS CD not cover the Vectra that your discs are from!? Are they 288mm or 308mm?

Front and rear are the same. They are 288mm. The TIS CD covers the Vectra but I suspect it will say the same thing.

Yer, They are standard Vaux discs throughout a lot of their range, MK4 Astra range had these fitted to SRi models up front as well as the Vectra as you say. If the vectra ones say the same, then its unlikely that the values were incorrectly copied isn't it?

Excellent, I have just checked the TIS CD for the Vectra B. There is a lot more info there than for the VX.

It states for the 2.5 (and other larger engined) Vectras the minimum value is 22mm.

No need to change mine just yet, will do it on the next change of pads though.
