Got pulled over by a policewoman the other day for speeding (about 40 in a 30 on kew bridge), but fortunately no ticket. She also told me that my left brake light was white. There's no crack on the lens on the outside and the bulb is a regular 382 for my peugeot 307. What would make it show white? Something broken on the inside of the plastic lens?

Sounds like there will be an internal reflector that is no longer there

Can you see it showing white with foot on the brake? In case it's actually something like the reverse light coming in

I unclipped the bulb array this afternoon to take a look and my hand grazed the tail light bulb. Boy did that burn my skin! :p

Hmm, thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, it sounds like it could be a missing reflector, rodenal.

I just went to my car and looked at the reflection of my rear lights in the car parked behind mine. I can see the white reverse light come on and the white brake light come on it next to it. So they're both working.

OK but does the brake light come on individually (I.e with the car out of reverse, does the reverse light come on too), and does it show white or red?

Stick something on the pedal and get out to look properly

^ Or film it with your phone resting at the back of the car whilst you pump the brakes if you are unfortunate enough to be a billy no-mates.

Yeah, I've just been to my car again and wedged a music stand on the brake pedal. :p

Here's the reverse light by itself.

And here's the reverse light with the white brake light.

And if I just press the brakes, the reverse light doesn't come on, so the wiring is ok.
