Brake pad hardware

Going to be doing the Mazda 3 brake pads soon and noticed they have little metal shims/spacers between the pads and the carrier. Do these just need cleaning or do they get replaced as well?
Never come across these before normally it's just the pads straight into the carrier after changing it up with a wire brush.

Do you mean like a thin flat but of metal that clips onto the back of the pads?

Or something different (if so I've not seen either).

Have you had a look through euro car parts or whatever to see if a new set also comes with them?

They're a separate item.
