Brake problem?

Yo fellas, hopefully one of you knowledgeable folk can help :)

I had two of my brake pads replaced at Kwik Fit (forgive me :D) and not all that long after I have a few problems which I am assuming are the brakes which may or may not be a coincidence - please read on ;)

For the first 30 seconds or so when driving everything is usually fine but after that when I go over any bumps in the road that are of any mild size I can hear a rattle which sounds like it's coming from the right hand side of the car outside. On the left side after say 5 minutes of driving when I'm moving slower, say 15mph and especially when I'm going forward in a slow moving queue I can hear a sort of tick/knocking noise which seems to be coming from the wheel area. The steering wheel vibrates a very small amount but you can tell it's there and when braking it does vibrate a little more and is much more visible. If I am going fairly slow in traffic and press the brake it also makes a 'clunk' noise which also happens when stopping on any kind of hill (no matter how small) in normal or reverse.

Both noises get progressively worse the longer I drive and strangely when I get into the car the next time they seem to reset themselves and the process begins again...

Kwik Fit have taken the front wheels off, had a look at the discs/pads and couldn't see any problems with movement or anything and another garage thought it might have been whatever it was that protects the underside of the car from damage but that didn't change anything either.

Unfortunately I am not a car expert so it would be difficult for me to look around if it's anything but super basic and without having to prop it up of course. It's getting to the stage that it's an embarassing sound because it's loud enough that people I drive past can hear it.

Any help is much appreciated as it's driving me insane!

What do you mean dalin?

Pads should always be replaced in sets of 4, just worth clearing that point up.

My guess would be the disc shield has been nudged and is rattling/rubbing away, that or the new pads are running on a poor disc surface and are throwing up noises and vibrations.

If you could jack the car up, remove the wheel and take pics then we may have a chance of helping, lots of guessing otherwise iam afraid.

Theres two pads per wheel.

I assume you actually mean 4 pads, 2 wheels.

Ah right, sorry yes :)

It's interesting you say that pepsilol as they did say they had no stock of the normal ones but then suddenly found some that were and fitted those. I think they said they filed them down slightly so they would fit. I'm guessing that's a bit of a mistake and I should probably force Kwik Fit to swap them over...

Everything in that above post reads as a bit worrying.

old trade motto 'if you need it fitted ******* quick, kwik fit will **** it'

They fitted the wrong pads indeed and so I will be taking them back for a refund. A more reputable garage spotted it straight away and put on two sets of Bosch.

sounds like something hasnt been re-fitted properly. I had a similar issue a few years back on a Saab 9-3. Part of the wishbone had broken and they tried to gaffer tape it! :O
