I got some warranty work done on the Corsa, now Vauxhall picked up my two front brake pads are literally worn to nothing. Because they do a Vehicle check after any work.

So I get a price for the 2 pads supplied and fitted @ £105.00 inc vat which I see as a **** take to me.

I know the cars still in warranty until October, but I was thinking I may just get Kwik Fit to do the job as they have that deal where they'll replace parts for aslong as i'm the owner.

But really though what should I be paying for 2 pads supplied and fitted?

Thanks.

It's actually 4 pads Jay, 2 each side.

So, the £105 is for supplied and fitted?

Probably not too bad for a dealer.

Get a quote from a decent indy though... probably get the lot done for £50! heh

seems expensive to me

what does the invoice break it down to ? cant believe changing break pads is anything other than an hours labour.

It's 4 is it? Shows how much I know :o

Hence why I drive what I do :D

But I'll have a dabble at Kwik Fit. Do ATS Euromaster deal in this area?

Or you could do it yourself for £10 or whatever it is for 2 sets of pads these days. I'm getting 2 discs and 4 pads made by Mintex for £40 off the bay so i cant see just the pads being too dear.

the pads will be under 20 quid meaning theyre charging you a silly amount for labour IMO

i agree with agw about an indy doing it for 50quid.

only way they can justify the cost is to charge for 2 hours labour imho.

But 2 hours to change some pads is ridiculous.

They don't break it down to what the actual parts and labour costs are on the check sheet, just £105.00

How long would it take just out of interest?. In my Haynes manual it makes it sound like a 10 min job lol.

I'd just get some cheap Ferodo pads and do it yourself, get the Haynes manual and a decent toolset (& impact driver if you change the discs) and you're set.

Depends how quick you work. I've done them in well under half an hour on some cars, it depends on lots of things.

it's easily a 10/15 minute job per wheel

even quicker if you've got a proper set of ramps and air hammer to whip the wheels off.

Half the time you'll spend on this job will be doing and undoing the wheel nuts and making sure the car is properly jacked up

in a dealership this takes 2 minutes.

Autodata says 0.8 hours for a set of front pads on a corsa. I'm sure I could do it in less than that.

Seems VERY expensive to me.

Its a 10min job per side if you have done it before and know how it all comes apart, and if it does indeed all come apart as expected.

I remember spending all day changing the pads on a 330 bmw i had, i couldnt get the wheels off!

50 minutes to change pads ?? right ....

Steps to changing brake pads

Step 1) Drive car onto ramp
Step 2) Raise Ramp
Step 3) remove all wheel nuts and wheels

Total time so far : < 5 minutes

Step 4) undo bolts holding caliper in place
Step 5) remove brake pads
Step 6) replace with new ones

Total time so far : < 10 minutes

Repeat for other wheel

Total time so far : < 15 minutes

Put wheels back on and lower the car

Total time so far : < 20 minutes.

What do you do for the other half hour, read the paper ?

It's 48 minutes actually ;)

Remember it's a garage! You forgot get paperwork, get parts from stores, get car keys, find car in car park, fit seat cover, drive onto ramps, get some gloves, do the job, fill in paperwork, return car etc etc.

The Autodata time is usually what they use to put an estimate together.
