Braking early...

Just a question of wonder really, my ride style is a little mad to say the least, but I always brake early/even if not needed to let others know I am rolling off the throttle a little.

But my main gripe is that I brake very early when coming to lights, as in, I will brake then realise I am rolling for another 100 yards before the lights, anyone else do this? Brake earlier and easier when on the commute or is it death braking 24/7?

When I am on a mad moment I still brake earlier, hate late braking.

You need more experience / confidence, your riding style is quite amateur, gun it slam on brakes gun it etc, your road positioning is quite poor, the way you flick around I doubt you had time for lifesavers, I thought the Porker was a good example you started in the right lane gunned it then swapped to the left so fast I shouldn't think you looked behind and left, the Porker had a chance of being right with you.

Slow down and grow confidence, maybe try an advanced course.

Good luck and keep the black side down :)

Thanks for the reply mate, I feel like I have confidence but guess not. I will think more about it next time I am out and about on her.

I do a lot of lifesavers and I knew the porche was behind me having a little fun, I indicated when I was pulling into the right lane.

I must say maybe just the vid but that is a very strange way to ride how long have you been riding ? kinda comes across as if you have just passed your test and some one has let you have ago on there bigger bike than what your used to no offence.

I thought that road looked familiar. If your in Reading hit me up if you want to ride out.

Just remember, smooth is fast, fast is smooth. Also knowing Reading traffic I would take it easier on the weaving in and out, some idiot will knock you off.

Got 2 years experiance, been riding a 748 for 2 years lol. I know the roads around reading like the back of my hand and the traffic flow. It's just the breaking, don't forget, you guys are seeing from the front wheel, not my head so can't see what I am seeing.

If the early braking is due to confidence then obviously I have some sort of subconscious issue to resolve. I am thankful guys :D A better rider is a safer rider.

edit: just to add, had 2 accidents, one was my fault, surfing is not clever... and the second, was rear ended by a bmw when i was stationary at some lights. The other reason for me giving it the beans in the vid is because i was only out for a test and was trying to sort cam out before traffic got bad.

That would be great mate, email is in trust :)

You only need yout brakes if your going too fast and need to slow down quickly or you need to come to a stop. Using brakes unnecessarily will just wear your brakes much quicker.

If your flowing with traffic then its quite easy to control speed with good throttle control and gear selection. It works for me quite happily.

Apart from anything else, light application of brakes will show other road users that you are slowing down.

I've never had a problem, nor do I see many others adopting that method. If the person behind you is not paying attention, then a car/bike brakes or no brakes won't make any difference.

I make proper use of the throttle to maintain traffic flows. I only use the brake if im too fast or I do need to come to a stop.

I saw the comments about your riding style, I thought there had been a big ride out or something, till I realised the video had been removed lol.

But yeah, it probably comes down to confidence, and selecting the correct gear, I rarely brake now, except when coming to a stop, or I need to slow down quickly. Just need to be in the correct gear, correct sort of pace, and you can slow down quite happily with out brakes, or bare minimum.

I disagree slightly. If someone is behind you and your wanting to stop and for whatever reason they are not paying attention, suddenly they catch a glimpse of your break light then hopefully they will see you.
