Hey,

Just got a new RM1000i from OCUK today, installed w/ a 9900k @ 5Ghz, 3090 FE, however under load or any significant FPS I'm getting large coil whine.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this normal?
2. Will it reduce?
3. Do I need to RMA?

Not sure what to do, or if this is expected. Previous PSU also seemingly had coil whine, but the Seasonic 850W from 2013 was resetting under load presumably due to the huge transient peak draw, which would reset my pc. Had a mate with the exact same PSU bought at the same time with a MSI 3080 and the exact same issue. And now we both bought a RM1000i and both have huge coil whine... :D

Thanks!

How were you able to tell it was the power supply? I'm having similar issues with my 3090 FE and RM850i but I assumed it was the GPU making the noise. My coil whine is also game dependent.

get an empty toilet roll and put it next to your ear and then put it next to the gpu and cpu and but dont touch anything with it and see where the noise is coming from :)

I’m running Unigine Valley with the case panels off and it is hard to tell but I’m fairly sure it’s GPU for me although maybe worse around the power connector.

Not sure the toilet roll helped but if the aim was to make me look silly it worked :D

it wasnt to make you look stupid, i have done it myself :) it helps to identify where the noise is coming from, ive also done it for nackered case fans to see which ones bearings are going lol
