Got someone a D3200 as a present as a bit of a gateway into photography. The camera is brand new and I am getting a 'Lens not attached' error with the Kit Lens. I have tried cleaning the contacts and making sure all of the sprung contacts are springing into place correctly and I still get the error.

Any Ideas? i hoping I don't have to send it back but its looking that way :(

As a quick fix try changing the circular dial to M for Manual and see if the message still comes up, I don't know this camera inside out but give it a try and see.

If you have access to a 2nd lens it will help determine if it is lens or camera error.
I expect you will have to return both.

It prompted me to change it to Manual Mode but the resulting photo was blank.

Took it back to the place I bought it and they gave me a new one.

Oooh I've just bought a 3200... Seems awesome but if nothing else it has highlighted how much research I need to do!

These issues are rare, just like buying any other consumer electronic you might be unlucky. As always buying from a reputable dealer minimizes your hassel.

It may surprise some people but don't discount the likes of John lewis and Jessops. John Lewis has the cheapest price for the D3200 in the UK, along with currys:
