I've been playing Automobilista 2 and Assetto Corsa for a short while.
Only raced offline against AI. I'd really like to go online. As such I've been trying my best to practice how to race clean without collisions so as to not hinder more experienced players once I do go online.

Are there any lobbies that I could join where rookies such as myself can get a bit of experience without me being an absolute nightmare to other more serious drivers?

Last night I had a couple of fun online races for the first time. I worked out what L,P,Q,R means. (Lobby, Practice, Qualifying, Racing for those even less knowledgeable than me). Triangle (red, amber, green) suggests ping speed. Green being good.

There are some other symbols I don't understand. In the race description I can also see "U100" or "off". Is this some sort of safety rating I have to achieve to be able to enter a race? Also, some races have a padlock symbol. Are these private lobbies?

Clearly you can see that my knowledge and experience is hovering around the zero mark. Are there any other basics that you can make me aware of?

Finding an idiot guide is nigh impossible without it including terms, phrases, acronyms I'm not yet familiar with. I am a doddery old fart and need stuff explained to me in simple, no preunderstanding terms.

Thank you.

I'm an Iracer myself so haven't tried it but have heard good things about simracing.gp, covers AMS2 + AC. Also with the community aspect there should be plenty of people to help you out.

Regarding Assetto Corsa...

Steam guides: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2442...iredtags[]=Multiplayer&requiredtags[]=English

I don't know what u100 means, I'm only aware of Minorrating for AC servers online, it's been a minute since I raced online so this might have changed but the principles will probably be the same, you will have a rating base level, if you have a clean race your rating goes up, if you have accidents that are your fault then your rating goes down, servers will require you to be at a certain level.

Just try and race clean, be mindful of people on hotlaps during qualifying, move out of their way and just generally keep aware, Car Radar is a must have for AC online for this.

Yes, padlock = password required to join

I also find Content Manager to be a much better UI to launch and browse with.

Yes as mentioned simracing.gp is excellent with lots of communities which will suit you.
Also racedepartment has community servers with events pretty much every day.
I recommend avoiding public servers/lobbies for any racing sim if you want clean racing regularly.
They have rookie leagues running too afaik.
