BRAS profile changes - is there a time of day this occurs?

Their networks generally use IP, so they don't need to use IP profiles.

There's no real layman's way to put it - feel free to do some reading on IP, ATM and congestion control.
Let me ask you a question in layman's terms and perhaps you can just answer yes or no :)

8Mb services on LLU. Do you always get the full speed of your line, without any waiting period. ie. if I sync at 1500 overnight, but then in the morning I re-sync at a higher speed of 2500, would I immediately receive the higher download speeds and not need to go through any waiting period like you do on BT lines. Is that right? And are all LLU providers exactly the same in this regard?

If so then it might make sense for me to seek out an LLU provider due to the way my line is so crap overnight. If it wasn't for the rigid bras profiles I could squeeze 3Mb out of this line during the day.

Yes

Which LLU providers are at your Exchange though as they don't all take the longer lines like yours, BE for example would probably refuse.

According to samknows, there are only three LLU providers here (Colchester): Talktalk, Sky / Easynet and WB Internet.

The only ISP that I know of which uses those providers is UK Online, and their site tells me I can only have the 1Mb or 2Mb services when I enter my phone number and postcode. That is to say, it won't even let me order the 8Mb service.

Samknows says I am 3.62km from the exchange (straight line).

My line attenuation (test socket) is 55.5-56.0 dB.
