After seeing so many post's in recent months about people Emigrating/Relocating to other countries or indeed coming to the Grand old UK, I started wondering what the appeal is ?

Now I have the chance to Leave "old blighty" for good, Forever, In other words till I get bored and want/have to come back here.

I Don't really have many "ties" here in the UK so it makes things a little easier to attempt such an idea, my brother emigrated to Australia about 4 years ago now and I've always thought about going there, most obvious choice, but after I met my wonderful girlfriend (who is in Brasil), this is where my life plans changed somewhat, after being torn between the two countries, Well three including the UK, for some time, I have decided to jump the UK ship in search of happiness, love and passport stamp;), so it looks like I'll be off this ship soon for Brasil.

So the descion has basically been made, I'll try Brasil and if that fails or I find it's not for me then I'll keep on flying round to Australia and try that.

So much to do so little time.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas as to how One would accompish such a change in ife?

The big question is this, What is more important?
  • A poo Job living in Brasil?
  • A not bad job living here?

The good old Money Vs. life debate;)

Pics of brasil in my sig ;)

How would the cost of living differ? I assume it would vary massively.

If you could afford to live whats the difference?
Everything works out cheaper compared to the £.
But Compared to wages there, which are quite low, it's still better than here as it is sti considered by most as a Third word country.

10% of the Popuation owns 85% of the countries wealth
20% of the Popuation earns a good wage, but 80% earn just enough to survive, sometimes not enough.

My main concerns are work and language.

I really don't mean for this to sound patronising at all, but you aren't considering doing this a for girl you met off the internet and haven't really spent a huge amount of time with are you?
Not once did I say or infact Imply such a thing, But I understand your point and this is not a desicion I have arrived at easily, as I said in my original post I have been thinking of Leaving the "Hms UK" for sometime, just now I have found some happiness I want to fulfil my happiness.

so you would Take money over happiness and everything else ? fair enough.

Or did you actually mean "take money and everything over" ?

Sod the money. If your not happy then you have to leave. No doubt.
And that is one of the reasons why Ithought ong and hard about it, the "black and white" is I'm not happy here and need a change maybe.

Admittidly this is not something I would normally do, I'm the one normaly at home or making excuses when people have traveled.

It's really hard to get my point across without sounding patronising, and I'm really not trying to. If you have lived with this girl before and known her for a while, it really is a huge difference than an internet girl you don't really know what it is like to live with. Just make sure you are 100% sure you want to go through with it and you know her well enough is all I'm saying. Also, make sure you would be happy to live there if you were to split up with her.

Although you've provided very little information, I think you'd be happied in Australia

Go for Brazil :) Better food, better weather, amazing lifestyle, much better women (not that you care, but it helps knowing you have options, just in case ;) ). Low point is that they talk a very strange language, but a lot of them speak Spanish so you could get by :)

As for life in the UK - I'm sorry, other than salary it hasn't got much to offer in comparison with Brazil. Well, maybe less slums and less guncrime. But with a UK education, you should easily make upper class over there.

Go for it - even if it goes wrong, better than not going in the first place and left wondering for the rest of your life about what could have been...

EDIT: You can't die without having seen the Carnival in Rio. That alone is worth moving to Brazil for.

I understand your point(s) and yes to be fair I've been a little vague with details.

So here goes, I have stayed there for three months already this year and she stayed here for three months last year, been and she came here for one month in 2003. I think I can live in Brasil, but to be honest if we were to split up (which I very much doubt) I would just goto to Australia anyway. While I as staying in brasil it was very much a "trial run" just the same as when she came here ast year.

believe me this is not done on a whim, it's not ike I don't know her ;)

The strange language you speak of is Portuguese and the three months I spent there I didn't once here anyone speak spanish , everywhere else in south America they do ( I think).

But apart from that everything else you say is what I'm thinking  are you in my head? :p

I know that ;) Portuguease sounds like a cross between Klingon and Serbian to me :p

But seriously, apparently Spanish is a very popular foreign language, because they are surrounded by Spanish speakers. So its good to know for emergencies.

Yes  You are now my slave and I can remote control you with my thoughts

Let's have a look around your head then....hmmm, interesting, bet your mum didn't know THAT ;) :p Anyway.

Mate - go for it! If you're thinking what I just typed, then really, you have made your mind up already, and you're just a little bit scared/overwhelmed and want to hear some people agreeing with you, to give yourself some courage and go do it.

You have made the decision and you know what you want to do! Start saving for that flight... :)

My idea of success is that I will never have to do a job that I don't enjoy.

If you go to Brazil and enjoy life more than you do here then in my mind you are a success, money does mean something in this world but don't ever let it ruin your dreams and enjoyment.

If I ever found myself feeling depressed due to work I will move on. Whats the point in having all that money if you can't enjoy life.

Dude that is SO true! When I first heard Portuguese people talk I thought they were speaking some sort of Slavic language based on the accent - it didn't sound like a Latin language at all!

First things first, Buy a cream suit and a hefty briefcase. Buy a villa and a big machine gun and refer to it as your friend.. Then give it the go large about how you were a bigtime gangstar but fled because of the "feds".
