Yeah that's what I thought when I first saw it, I downloaded it and it does grip you especially with a friend.

Played this a little a long time ago. Reminded me of an old Japanese 3DS game i used to play in terms of mechanics and feel.

Not bad for free to be honest - but you do have to have some interest in platform based fighting games of the past (like Smash as you mentioned)
