Break fluid

Brake* Fluid , Merky doesn't sound good. It should be clear, the same colour as Fosters! (the beer or slightly lighter :p)

it should look like wee yes, But i would get it tested, as we have had some people come in with what looked like good brake fluid (looked like we as such :p) But after testing it we found it to be really bad with a low boiling point. Where as we have had people come in with what looked like Dirty as such brake fluid, but a perfectly acceptable boiling point.

I like to go with golden syrup, but runny. The main reason to change it is that the water content rises over time and reduces the boiling point, which means brake-fade is more likely.

That's oil. If brake fluid has gone dark like old engine oil it's well past due for a change.

This. Mine was pretty much black when I changed it after noticing the braking was really poor. I was a little sceptical that it would make the kind of difference that I was looking for but it did. I'm convinced now. If you don't feel your braking is up to scratch (and it doesn't have worn out pads) change it out, (literally) cheap as chips too.
