break of motorway at scotland

never really took any notice up untill yesterday - when you get to carlisle thers a break from motorway standard road untill you cross the border around gretna

any reason for this? seems silly

Well it is being upgraded... They are extending the M6.

There isn't really much need for it, hardly any traffic on it anyway. Only reason there are delays now is because of the roadworks!

I always wondered this myself,quite a section of it is unlit aswell iirc.

Seems a bit daft to have the main road into Scotland like that,from my college i can see junction 6 and junction 5. Both of these junctions are soooooooooooooooooo busy at rush hours its not true.
