Breakdown on this bridge and get charged £150!

I'm curious of the legality of that - while they might be able to use their own company to recover your vehicle from their property and bill you I'd have thought legally if you requested it they would have to remove the vehicle to the boundary and then invoice you?

Seem ripe for racketeering as well - should be regulation whereby they were limited to charging industry competitive prices for recovery.

That whole bridge is just a cash cow. Apart from that charge, the signage is inadequate and you only have until midnight the following day to pay before being subject to a fine.

It is estimated that they issued £1M in fines in the first month of opening, which is utterly ridiculous. The charges have been ruled unlawful but I believe that is under appeal currently.

We were promised free travel over this bridge and they took that away as they opened it. The old bridge used to be free to cross which when (or if) it re-opens will also be a toll.

They were also supposed to only run it as a toll until it had been paid back - I think it has been paid back more than two-fold now.

The Tory MP in Warrington South, a fairly safe Tory seat, was voted out over this I believe.

Seems like a bad idea to use one authorised firm. What happens if you call your breakdown firm and they recover you?

It says no roadside repairs or tyre changes either. But if you just did it anyway there isn't much they can do. If you manage to get on to the back of a recovery truck and drive off, it's to late :D

But like the Dartford Crossing toll, it will now probably carry on forever and be a money making machine for someone. That was only supposed to be a toll until it paid for itself as well and now it's paid for itself many times over, plus some.

One solution is to pull over take your plates off, seems to be a popular one now with all the cameras and automated systems around...

The whole bridge is a joke. All the money they made on fines in the first few months preying on people not knowing they had to pay online was scandalous. I’m sure the Wallasey and Birkenhead tunnels charge even more if you were unlucky enough to break down in there.

They can't charge a toll on the old bridge. EVER!!!

So when they reopen it they will change the name of the bridge so its now new..

Then they can charge.....

That bridge is just a joke all round, heard too many people who've been on holiday flying out of Liverpool airport stung with charges when they got home as the signs weren't clear and they only had 'till midnight to pay the toll.

I now actively avoid going up that part of the world cos of the stupid bridge.
