I'm back baby!
Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds :D

Take an ordinary baton (or small french stick):

Grill some bacon

Take a small pinch of sea salt, some cracked black pepper, some grated cheese and 3 eggs, mix the eggs up and then add to the mixture. Mix thoroughly.

Take the bacon from under the grill before it cooks fully

Chop it up with some scissors and add to your mix (I forgot to take this pic). Turn your grill off and turn your oven on to 200 degrees C.

Make the trencher by hollowing out your baton (I cut where the thin crust is and just took that away, of course making sure I snaffled the lovely soft fresh bit from inside before proceeding).

Fill the trencher with your mix, then slide it into your preheated oven. I didn't get a photo of the pre-bake because it gets a bit messy :)

After 10 mins reduce the heat to 150 degrees C.

Make a coffee.

Leave it a bit longer, or until the cheese is properly golden, then remove and serve.

Enjoy

I simply cannot convey how awesome it was. Warm, fresh bread made this morning with the gooey cheese, the bite of the bacon and the egg cooked just right

Tinfoil in the grill pan? No need, it goes in the dishwasher :p

Mushrooms? That's not food

The only thing I wished I'd done was laid down some sauce inside the sandwich. I dipped it in HP in the end but it's not the same :)

Eh? I don't get what your issue with putting bacon under the grill is

I wasn't alive in the 70s and don't own any cooking books bar ones bought for me centred more on Asian cuisine.

Maybe it's worth blasting the egg mix in the microwave a little before putting it in the bread if it's coming through uncooked. Mine was fine, which is weird

I did have a look this morning though, and although the bread isn't marked as part-baked it is very, very white and does have instructions for putting it in the oven for 4-6 minutes :o
