I've just finished watching Breaking Bad for the first time and OMG what an overrated show.

It's a good show, no doubt about it but it's not THAT good. It's a solid 7 out of 10 throughout the series.
The last two seasons were pretty good, but I thought it lost it towards the end though with the Neo Nazis.

I definitely do not get the love of Walt as a character, he's a **** from the beginning. When he says 'I'm the one who knocks', NO YOU'RE NOT, YOU JUST WORK FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND CAN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING!

I thought Gus was an excellent character and antagonist. Jesse was easily the best character in the show but even his story became a bit rubbish towards the end.

7/10 would not watch again

I think the reason why I and others praise this show so much is that most of us started watching it before it was hailed as "the greatest tv show" ever made. Those getting into it now expect it to be mind blowing.

I think that had a big part of it.

The good thing is we all know True Detective is the greatest show ever made.

What he did he did for his family.

Perhaps at the beginning but beyond he did it for himself.

He was working for Gus, a common sense approach (in that situation) would be to continue working for him and make money that way, free from any outside issues.
However it's his ego of being what it was messed most of that up.

Then you obviously didn't pay attention.

It all went pear shaped when Walt realised Gus was going to kill him if he wanted to pull out of the deal.

Like someone said further up the thread, binge watching it doesn't portray how good it was, watching from the start and waiting months between seasons was made it fascinating.

You're wrong.

It was Walters actions that led to Gus wanting to kill Walter.
Remember when Walt killed those two dealers, running one over and shooting the other? If Walt hadn't killed them and caused problems for the operation then the rest wouldn't have occurred.

I didn't say that at all.

What I said was that watching a show from start to finish in a week doesn't give you the sense of thinking about what might happen/speculating. The show does itself justice but without the wait for the next episode/season it loses some of that because people are watching it like it's a film.

You can marathon shows and still get the same feeling.
The Wire (for the first time) is absolutely top notch, you WANT to watch the next episode to see what is going to happen next. Forcing yourself wait a week is just stupid

And why did he do that?

Do you think it was because he needed Jesse?

Have a think before you proclaim people are wrong :)

Same as saying people don't understand the plot ;)
It went pear shaped before Gus wanted to kill him, that was the consequence of Jesses actions.

Also him needing Jesse didn't make that much sense tbh, he wanted to make money to help save his family. Lets not use the excellent scientist that's available, Gale, lets use Jesse. In most the series he doesn't respect Jesse and just uses him to his advantage. There are a few occasions where he does help Jesse, but these are outnumbered by the times he's a ****

So in actuality Walt would have been far better off without Jesse, or at least supporting him and comforting him after Combos death.

Who forced themselves to wait a week, you do realise BB started like 5/6 years ago?

It wasn't a case of waiting a week through choice, again, engage brain first. :)

When BB came out it was shown once a week, with gaps in between the seasons.
Binge watching a show shouldn't make it worse. It's that simple.

Gus was going to kill walter as soon as he had the formula for the meth imo. That didn't happen but gus was always going to get rid of walter.

I never got his impression tbh, I saw Gus using Walter indefinitely as his meth was clearly the best. Gus was far too much of a businessman to let that fail.

I'm fully aware of the running order of the show, I watched it first time round. My point was you stated "waiting a week to watch the next episode is stupid" Which makes me think you don't understand simple things like the running orders of television programmes. I didn't say it makes it worse, what I said was you miss the overall feeling of the programme and miss vital plot lines which you clearly have.

Your point is pretty misguided actually.
You should be able to watch a show for the first time, and feel the same as people who watched it when it came out.

It seems other people share my synopsis of the programme. So I won't go into it too much, lets see if anyone else shares your views :)

miss vital plot lines which you clearly have.
Which are open to interpretation. Your statement was still incorrect though, it still went pear shaped before Gus was going to kill Walt
