Turned on my PS3 and got the message "The hard disk is corrupted and will be restored."

Cue OMFG I've lost all my saves!!!!:eek:

The machine did the restore and everything seems to be fine but I think it may be time to move to a bigger drive now.

Phew!

Cribbons! so are all your saves gone. I had a similar situation a while back i lost my finished mgs4 and rr7 data. Ive since upgraded to a 320gb drive and keep a sd in it as backup for games i play

Yes, it is exactly breaking news as it's news about my PS3 breaking.

I like the idea of keeping an SD card in it to ocassionally back up the saves thogh. Gonna do that tomorrow.

Did the "restore" occur in like a minute or two? I am fairly sure I have seen this message before (and even posted on here about it).

It is along the lines of your hard drive is corrupted and needs restoring, then the bar swishes across relatively quickly and machine restarts.

From memory it sometimes happens after a system update and it is not a real restore as that would take forever and the PS3 would not have a backup (those are created manually on external media).

Mine does this quite a bit.

Same here, but only after fitting one of the recommended 250 gig Hds from here, I have since removed it and put the original 60 gig back and have had no issues.

You can access the repair menu by holding the power button until you get two beeps – I think, it has a few options in it like this.

Scort.

The restore took about five minutes. It hung at 47% for ages and I thought oh no it's not gonna complete.

I'm fairly sure it's because I had to switch the PS3 off using the switch at the back after I booted it up and it displayed my background pic but no XMB.

Might need to take it apart and clean it out soon as it seems to be hanging more and more often these days.

I've read on other sites that this can be caused by powering off with the switch at the rear of the PS3. If you're doing that you should probably shut the PS3 off from the XMB or control pad first.
