Breaking the "too many games to enjoy any of them" rut

I've seen a good few threads where people buy loads of games in sales and never play them for more than 30 mins, feeling like they're never drawn into them enough. I can certainly identify. It's like gaming nymphomania: I float from game to game never getting to know it and never finding the satisfaction I crave!

That ends today! I'm going to only play one game at a time until I finish each and every game I haven't given a chance. I'm hoping this strategy will allow me to stop flitting about my steam games and give back some of the satisfaction :)

So, to get me started I'm asking you to choose my first game from this list of games I've yet to really play, or that I gave up on prematurely.

In alphabetical order:

-Deus Ex
-Doc Clock
-Dragon Age Origins
-Eufloria
-Frontlines Fuel of War
-Grid (I did rack up a few hours, but I think it needs to go on the list)
-Just Cause 2
-Mass Effect 2
-Crysis (nearly finished then dropped it)
-STALKER (SOC and COP, although I was never able to get COP to run )
-Titan Quest (and Immortal Throne)
-Toca 3
-DoW 2 + Chaos Rising (really enjoyed DoW2 so not sure why I stopped halfway)
-Wings of Prey

Take your pick, and I will bind myself to finishing the SP at the very least before moving onto another game! Some epic games in there that deserve some playtime, so let me hear your choice.

Cheers

fancy titan quest myself I got up to Egypt and quit LOL I am in same boat as you see my thread lol

That's what inspired me. I was looking at my game library before reading it and didn't feel like playing any of them... and yet I know they're games I would enjoy. Time to end my game whoring I thought.

Same problem here aswell so many just started games, thought i would give DOW2 a quick try, turned it off after my 1st in game game click :P, just bought metro 2033, i blame black ops it has kind of sidetracked me from new vegas which i was enjoying, just spent a few hours playing blackops started to find it tedious (rank 4 prestigue so maybe im just overplaying it).

Out of your list I would go for Mass Effect 2, its the game in mylist half finished that i REALLY need to pick up as ME1 has one of my favourite game stories ever

Just Cause 2 is a game you can play for an hour at a time and just keep chipping away at all the achievements in the game. Then just do a story mission now and again.

dragon age is awesome but it isn't short when you start doing all the side quests too....fair bit of replayability(is that a word ?) in there too.

I can't bring myself to replay any game these days. Used to all the time as a kid i think it's because I have more games than i get the time to play even once!

Dragon Age Origins I actually managed to finish, took me 60 hours but i played it very thourougly as i wanted not to miss much. It's a great game tbh and really sucked me through.

Probably the single most enjoyable game i have played and couldnt put down until i had finished lately is Batman AA, that would be a great game to break the rut if you have it!

I've got the same problem, I have every game you can think of for xbox 360/PS3/PC and yet I hardly ever play any of them. The only game I completed in last few years was god of war 3 when that came out, and before that it was hl2 lol.

Good attitude, I adopted something similar around 7 years ago and haven't looked back. Still get sidetracked by multiplayer of course but I probably average one SP game finished every 3 weeks or so since then (compared to one every 50 weeks from the previous 5 years!).

My recommendation is to initially focus on genres that are easy to pickup and play i.e. FPS and arcade racers. So the likes of Crysis, Frontlines and Grid should be prime targets from your list. Obviously the best game on that list (well.... any list) is Deus Ex but being 10 years old and relatively open-ended, coupled with a fairly subdued start, it may not be the best game to tackle first up.

That said I am terrible when it comes to consoles. Got Wii, PS3 and XB360 yet haven't played anything in months. In fact the Xbox has only ever been switched on once when I first got it to play PGR4, the other 5 games I've got are unopened!

Deus Ex
Dragon Age
Stalker
ME2

Some of the best games ever made. Get stuck in.

JC2 will be a great no-brainer, chaosfest bit of fun between all the "heavy" gaming of the previous ones I mentioned.

Crysis/Warhead is a great fps so I would get that sorted at some point, actually it was the last "straight up" fps I really enjoyed.

Titan Quest, I dunno. It's probably the best hack and slash game I've played in recent years, but I can't endorse it. It'll take up too much time and give the least back.

stab>loot>portal>vend>portal>stab>boss>loot>portal>vend for about 60 hours. I would skip it and put something else on. In fact, I would only recommend TQ to someone who had too much time and nothing better to do with it.

Okay, so a few votes for Crysis, Deus Ex, DAO, and ME2. I just remembered I may have lost my Crysis savegames when I reinstalled my OS so will have to check that, but if I have them then it sounds like a good place to start. I must admit I was dreading the Deus Ex votes as it was sooooo ugly!

Started playing DAO and its incredible. I need to get back into it as there is a lot to learn and a great story to follow.

ME2 would again be on the list, incredible..

I would suggest not going for the blockbusters first :D

Just Cause 2 - a real sleeper hit for me, very under-rated - great graphics, fun gameplay, lots to do (and drive), huge gameworld and....who doesn't like blowing the **** out of everything in sight? :D

Okay, I'm going to tally all the votes up when I get home from work tonight and the winner will be the game I play. I'm kinda excited about this. It's like getting a free game to play, but I know I'll get stuck in because I said I would. May even post screenies of my steam gameplay time just so I can't cheat.

So many on my Steam list (400Gb) worth - problem is, not only have I got new games, there are others that I haven't played in ages and want to run through again. Trying to stick to Splinter Cell at the moment.

Deus Ex above all else. You can even get a graphical mod to made it look a bit better but you shouldnt need to as the game carries itself regardless. This is the only true classic in that list, some might be great but not in the same league.

Crysis or ME would follow. Both very good at what they do.

It mainly depends what type of game peaks your interest the most and if you want to get into a fps, rpg or racer etc.

Deus Ex by miles, then the Stalker games which are immensely atmospheric followed by Mass Effect 2.

I take it you played Mass Effect 1?

Don't make the mistake my brother made by playing the second one first!
