Evening all.

Me and a few friends got thinking about the idea of making moonshine (all in the interests of science). I have had a look round the internet and cant seem to find any deffinitive recipes etc and im a bit confused as to the methods or equipment which need to be used. My dad has a fair amount of wine making 'stuff' which i presume is similar?

I would be greatful for any advice or tips in making it! If any of you have previous experience of making this yourself, even better!

Thanks again.

Rob :)

But it is entirely legal to make it?! Im sure this has been brought up before (but i cannot find it) on these forums without such replies?

Thanks

not sure how legal it is to make it but surely the Revenue and Customs people might show an interest

If you sell it yes, there are no legal issues as far as my research has shown providing it is for personal consumption, which ofcourse it will be!

Im guessing i'm not going to get an answer to my original question?!

Bewing is legal. Distillation is illegal.

Did you honestly think the government would not try to steal your money at every chance they got?

Ah ok, must have missed that. Nevermind! I doubt i would have ever got anywhere with this anyway! Certainly wasted an afternoon of browsing random websites!

Ta anyway.

chances of you getting cauight? slimmer than slim.
 but that won't be the opinion of the majority of people in these forums no doubt.

Still cant find anything regarding the legalities of this. Has anyone got any sources for me to read through?
Thanks

page 17

"No person shall manufacture spirits, whether by distillation of a fermented liquor or by any other process, unless the manufacture
holds an excise licence for that purpose under this section spirits.
(referred to in this Act as a " distiller's licence ")."

But there it also says (forgive me if im wrong) that making your own wine is duty chargeable? But for your own consumption it is not surely? And surely that can be applied to anything home made?

EDIT - righto, didnt see that part, ignore the majority of this post!

How boring.
