Brexit thread - what happens next

Indeed. We've insulted a lot of countries in the EU who considered us friends or at least good allies. Hurt them by sticking two fingers up at them, by making it sound like the EU is some terrible organization (even if we don't agree wih everything it does, the EU is still trying to do the best for all its members). Add to this abusing their countrymen living amongst us and treating their contribution to the UK like **** (most immigrants here work hard and contribute). Also by destablizing the EU with such a clumsy and chaotic exit (if we were going to go we should have done so with a proper plan, to not do so is an insult to everyone).

All in all we're behaving very un-British, which is ironic given the whole angle of the Leave campaign was to free to be more British. I guess we're just showing our true colours as a nation, which is deeply sad.

We put up with it for years, if it were the other way they would not stand for it. When they were asked to assist asylum seekers they turned round and said no so did many eastern countries . This has to be a 2 sided venture not one sided.
Eastern Europe attitudes do not fit with western Europe attitudes, i'm sorry but they dont have the openness like the UK, and are more racist than any Western European country.

Agreed. Poland of all places was a close friend and ally of the UK. They will be seriously hurt and slightly embarrassed that Britain, has in large part decided to leave (and destabilize) the whole of the EU because it's citizens were simply exercising their right to live and work in the UK.. which is something we willingly agreed to when they joined.

All it says about the UK is, we hate you so much, we're willing to put our entire Economic security on the line to stop any more of you coming in.

You don't really get much more insulting than that.

Poland still is a close ally, this is all rather bizare - leaving the EU doesn't stop us from being allies and this was much more than just Polish people living in the UK

GBP expected to fall to 1.2 to the USD, a start if a recession looks extremely likely now.

Well done brexit items, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves for ruining Britian.

I think people are forgetting that we haven't actually left yet.

Does not matter its all changed now, they will impose anything they like on the UK. Its best if the UK stays out and allows them to collapse, feel for the Spanish and Italians they just do not know what they are getting into.

With refection, it will become more apparent just how syndical the leave campaign has been. It's the privileged elite, taking advantage of the disaffected poor, for their own ends.

The media and politicians in cahoots.

erm no the elite were mostly on the side of remain... the big global companies, FTSE 100 index bosses, Goldman Sachs and assorted other banks, the US President, the UK government

I'm surprised there hasn't been a new meme in the style of "murica" ones yet.

Wonder if we'd be allowed to do a photoshop thread without people getting too arsey about it.

We have not left the EU, its all be staged for us to rejoin with worse terms.

Indeed. And this was clear from the moment the first mainland result came in on results night, from Sunderland.

It's not the first time it's happened in history and it'll likely not be the last. But it is sickening to see this still dressed up as some kind of win for the ordinary working person. As you say, it'll become more apparent with time. But that won't stop all the pain that's going to unfold.

Still, if the government is going to run a referendum that results in major constitutional change like some reality show eviction vote, what can anyone expect?

I don't think the post was intending to mean that.

It was to say some privileged elites took advantage for their own ends.

Obviously as you've said, most were on the remain side.

Boris Johnson 2013: "Quitting the EU won't solve our problems"
Boris in the past two days:
'The margin by which the UK voted to leave the EU was "not entirely overwhelming"'
"UK will continue to "intensify" cooperation with EU."
"The only change - and it will not come in any great rush - is that the UK will extricate itself from the EU's extraordinary and opaque system of legislation"

If you're a leave voter and you don't feel a pinch of regret, shame on you. Perhaps not because of the implications of voting leave, but definitely because you allowed lying dirty politicians to play into the hearts of the countries poorest, spouting absolute nonsense for political gain. And if the past two days and the statements the winning side have given (which shout 'this has been a hollow victory and we're not happy about it') haven't got you thinking about this, you will in the near future.

you've got to wait until London starts trading really, it has opened lower in Asia but it hasn't then made a big move... frankly it could bounce all over the place on low volume.

Need to wait and see what speeches/press releases etc.. go out tomorrow morning - Osborne saying some nice things and/or some good statement from a significant EU/German figure could just as easily see it change course.

Considering everything over the last few days has been negative, even down to the collapse of the opposition. It would have to be some very positive news, such as "we as a government have decided not to enact article 50" to affect the current downward trend of the pound for the next few days... :p
