Hi all, last night my PC had the Bosd while watching One Piece. It was pretty late so I decided to just leave it and went to bed. This morning I was going to install some new stuff such as a new motherboard and a cooler. But to my surprise my PC won't turn on anymore. It can get to the bios but not all the way through to windows. I have been trying everything I can think of to try and solve it (removing cmos battery/load optimised /load fail safe/clean install of win7/as well as system restore) but the problem still persists.

Before the clean install of windows I was getting the message shown below.

Now I am just getting an error message saying that bootmgr is missing?

Any help would be appreciated, I would like to get this motherboard fixed so I can sell it on to recoup some of the money spent on the new one.

Thanks in advance.

Bootmgr missing is like its trying to boot from the other drive, try setting the boot drive in the bios to the SSD instead of the WD Blue

Hi thanks for the reply, I have also done that but it still keeps showing the error.
Also tried setting the connection from IDE to ACHI but still the same.
Would it be safe to disconnect the WD Blue with just the SSD installed?

Yes, thats the best thing, unplug the WD Blue and see if it boots, changing the AHCI setting would give a different symptom in that it would crash trying to get into windows instead of before it loads the BOOTLDR

But still for best performance it should be set to AHCI, but that depends on what it was set to in Windows as it needs the AHCI drivers installed to work.

Get past the bootldr issue first then move on getting into windows.

Yeah, will do that, Im just really trying to get this fixed for the time being and worry about performance later.

Thanks again, will get back to you with results asap.

@Wazza, thats the thing, I can't get past the error message.

Guys....guys...i think i have done it...i may have fixed the problem....
removed the wd blue and reinstalled win7 with just the ssd plugged in and its booting fine now. just going to do a couple of restarts/reboots to make sure.

thanks all!

hello again. instead of opening a new thread i thought i would keep it all in here. After installing my new motherboard I'm not getting any output at all. My keyboard and mouse don't light up and my monitor says no signal detected although everything in the case is on, motherboard lights, GPU fan, case fans, fan controller.

What could be causing this problem, did I short out something in the process?

Just not my day

Bump. Could someone please help.
The new problem is described above.
I'm not sure what to try now since it's not in a boot loop but instead I get no signal from monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Does the system post at all? any beeps or just power to the board/fans etc and then no response?

Still think it could be a possible 5v failure from the psu. The 5v powers your hard drives, usb's and pci so would explain some of the behavior.

you can get psu testers fairly cheap and ocuk do sell one
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-138-TT
that could confirm if it's a psu issue without having to borrow or buy a new one.

I removed the battery last night before going to bed.
After putting it back in earlier, still no signal.

Just tried removing everything and putting them back in, now I get signals from keyboard and mouse but not from monitor.

@Sneaky, that's £22 I don't have ATM :(

If you shop around you can find them at the £5-10 range but probably not as good quality.

If the systems not posting though I'd start by just removing the ram, gpu, hard drives and usb devices and just trying to get a beep and then work from there reintroducing things

sneaky, it seems that your predictions were right.
these are the few things I have discovered.
When I have minimal peripheral connected, I can get signal on my monitor, mouse and keyboard.
When I start to add other things such as headphones, speakers, Ethernet I can still get power on my keyboard and mouse but no signal on my monitor.
And when I add the GPU, I get no signal or power at all.
