Hello,

I have £280 to spend in a high street camera store after my last camera, an isux 40, (fortunately insured) was ran over and written off.

I used to be into 35mm SLR photography, even studying it for a year at college. I was quite good and received excellent grades in the coursework which I actually completed :p

Anyway, if I opted for a DSLR I think it would be the 400D kit. However, this would cost me around £200 on top of my vouchers and if I am honest I cannot see myself investing in further lenses and such. Also, I would prefer to spend no additional money on the camera as a bit skint after two holidays and being self employed (no holiday pay!).

I haven't physically looked at any cameras yet, I used a Panasonic FZ8 whilst at the Nurburgring with a few other forum members and thought it was a nice camera. I note that Fuji are big players in the bridge market.

the S9600 looks very nice but apparently the LCD does not show a live image when adjusting various parameters, is this correct? Seems a bit odd to me?

I don't have any CF or XD cards either so would end up going over the £280 if I opted for the S9600.

The other camera is the S6500fd which is at £180 leaving me £100 to get some accessories.

What I would like to know is, should I be looking at any other options/models? What are the major differences between these two Fuji's? Is the S9600 worth the additional £100?

It seems that the store my vouchers for are massively overpriced on the S9600.

If I can haggle them down a fair bit then I think I will opt for this one.

Well a friend who works for said company has managed to secure me a good deal on the 9600 so I am off to collect one in an hour or two. Will post my opinions after a day or two. :)

Just trying to remind myself the effects of various settings. Had a few OK images come out tonight though.

Will keep playing. This HDR business seems interesting... Not sure where to start though.

'Tis true. I didn't really like the S9600 and returned it for a refund after three weeks. Take care of it just incase you need to do the same. ;)

Canon's new SX model is supposed to be pretty good, and can be had for the price you've mentioned from a high-street-store I think.
