I'm more than a little stuck, any help would be appreciated:
Playing a fun little game 'Altitude' i get regular massive ping spikes and have done since i got the game. I will be playing on a 20-30 ping fine and randomly the ping will jump to 500-1500 or more for no apparent reason, whilst this is going on ive performed a few basic tests.
Whilst playing i have set a continuous ping to a website, the ping stays a steady 20 whilst the game ping is spiking in to the thousands. I even then did a similar test, this time pinging the server i was playing on at the time, regular pings all the time until the ping spike, the game spiked but the cmd prompt pinging had one time out then carried back on again at 20.
Leads to packet loss presumably, i checked with my isp and they couldnt think of anything their end that would be causing this, forwarding on to today i found out that someone else had a similar issue (found on steam forums)
In the thread it mentions Bridge Filters for a DLink DI-524:
Unfortunately i cant for the life of me find anything even similar on my netgear DG834 router. Does anyone have greater knowledge than i (this part isnt hard at all
) about netgear routers and how to stop them interfering with the packets coming from a source?
