Sorry for the thread here as we have a tyre thread, but I want to discuss run flat tyres having AGAIN popped my front offside tyre, this time after 4 days from new!!

So that is 3 identical tyres done in 4 months, 2 on normal A roads, tonight’s a duel carriageway coming out of Brum at 40mph!!

All 3 occasions it’s been like hitting a 10 foot hole but tonight’s was not obvious. Just BANG and then 3 seconds before tyre warning.

I am going to speak to Bridgestone as I’ve done more tyres in the past 4 months than in the last 34 years. Something is wrong with either the design or the wheel or both. All 3 have gone in the same place, pics to follow.

Thoughts?

Well, at least you are ok. What car is this and I take it it is the recommended tyre for the car? It's does seem to have happened too often for it just to be chance, there is probably something up.

530D XDrive Fox Spec!, all BMW fitment all to spec, all brand new all properly fitted and inflated.

I'd love to pop a sarcastic comment in here but that's just crap.

Wouldn't have happened on an AMG though.

Well, my opinion is you should speak to both Bridgestone and BMW as it seems to be happening too often, so something could be wrong with the design of the tyre or wheel.

Hmm yes must be BMW or Bridgestone. No other variables I can think of here.

You say they have all gone in the same place. Does that mean outer sidewall at the bead? Are you able to tell if it’s the same point on the wheel itself?

It’s a long time ago now, and I’d assume the technology would have improved somewhat, but my Z4 coupe came out of the showroom in 2008 with Bridgestone Potenza runflats. I had more punctures in the 18 months I had those tyres than I have ever had in the whole rest of my car ownership experience since I turned 17. One time I even had both rears go at the same time.

I’ve been driving a long time, I’ve driven I suspect a couple of million miles give or take and I’ve not written off more than 3 tyres up to start of this year in 37 years driving and now I’ve done 3 in 4 months. Something is wrong, right now I need to dig deeper to find out what. The last one was too quick on a known bump, but other cars have been over said bump at similar speeds and been fine. Its my bloody driveway. The first and tonight’s were normal speeds on A roads with a vast number of vehicles transcending them each hour. The wheel was checked both times previously and was true and seemingly unblemished.

I've not been overly impressed with Bridgestones lately - though I can't fault the t005 for performance but within a year they had crazy cracking inside the treads the like I've not seen in the past until tyres are like 6-7 years old. Though they aren't the only brand I've been seeing that lately.

That said that shouldn't be happening - wonder if it is something specific to the vehicle and tyre combination.

I just wonder because it was hot today, could they have become over-inflated and therefore been more vulnerable to a burst type failure?
My GTR’s go up by 8psi on track, these were pootling back from a day in Brum chatting to the Mrs whilst listening to Smooth Chill radio at 40mph

local council in cambridgeshire doesn't spend much on road maintenance, and I know multiple spots where tramline type road cracks would eat tyres
- have you been back to the scene of the crimes ... pity dash cams don't really have the camera resolution.
