bridging connections

I once bridged connections on my machine to share the wired connection coming from my dads' PC (shared internet connection) to a wireless card.

My laptop then connected up with the wireless card to provide me with wireless internet access from my dads' computer.
 
I have a belkin usb wireless adaptor....

I have setup the software, i.e. data encryption, found the network from a wired connection, connected to the network etc...

However I cannot access the internet or the files on the network to which I connected to successfully....

I am baffled...

I went into network connection, properties for the connection, when I click on tcp/ip and try to add a client....it requests the win xp cd....perhaps this is wrong?

I just want to be able to access files and the internet on the network to which I am connected but dont know how? Pls help?

Thats why I wondered if I have to bridge the connection?
