Hi guys,

Just a quick one, I am only running my front components through the amp and would like to bridge the 4 channels to essentially be 2.

At the moment the 4 speaker wires,

Left Speaker Negative
Left Speaker Positive

Right Speaker Negative
Right Speaker Positive

are plugged into their respective bits on the amp. What configuration do I need to put the wires for them to be bridged?

On the amp there is a diagram which shows a diagonal configuration to bridge, does that mean I put the Left Speaker and Right Speaker positive together in the appropriate position (joined together) and the same for the Left Speaker and Right Speaker negative wires?

Cheers!

Left speaker: Positive goes to Channel 1 positive. Negative goes to Channel 2 negative
Right Speaker: Positive goes to Channel 3 positive. Negative goes to Channel 4 negative.

Your inputs would then go on Channel 1 + 3, that's how it works in bridged mode.

This stuff confuses the hell out of me. Has anyone got a link to a retards guide to caraudio at all?

Thats the best I can explain it!

Thanks for that. However in terms of the RCAs, do I need to run an extra rca cable from the "rear channel" from my headunit to the amp or do I use the existing cable and just split up the positive and negative across the front and rear input into the amp? Just need to clear that up as if it's the former that means i'm gonna have to route an extra cable through the car!

Without knowing the amp you cant say, on mine its 1+4, 1 being left positive, 4 being left negative.

If you wire an amp on + and + it just wont work as its not grounded.

Edit, your diagram however is quite correct.

Bump as i'm still confused regarding the RCA inputs, on the amp it's labelled as Front and Rear, am I running an extra RCA from the headunit into the Rear RCA input on the amp or am I splitting the existing one that goes into the Front RCA input?

You need to split the existing one, front left, rear right, then wire front left + rear right - :)

Yup but power will be lost so its never going to be 2x100!

When it comes to components they wont actually see any of that power unless your planning on running a sine wave through them (dont) anyway :)

It's a reasonable estimation for these purposes.

Regarding the RCA splitting query gurdas - you can just split the front RCA signal. You'd need to run a separate rear RCA if you were running a sub that you wanted independent control of or, of course, rear speaker channels.

Thanks for the help guys, ended up changing amp anyway as it was playing up. Ended up with a dedicated JBL 752 giving 75w rms to my 80w rms focals and a JBL 7001 which will give 700w rms (will turn it down) to my 500w rms JL 12" sub:D
