I'm new to hard tubing (but have been building with soft for like 18 years) and I was just wondering what method the experienced guys tend to do when bridging two solid points with a straight tube, i.e. you're not using the graphics inlet/outlet on a distro but need to bridge them and want to use two 90s and a straight tube in the gap. Is there an simpler way than getting one end into a fitting then trying to turn the other 90 and wedge the other end of the tube in without damaging the distro? Just feels like I'm missing something obvious to avoid straining plexi fittings points.

depends on how long it is. you can use 90s and fit the fittings and 90s to the tube then screw the 90s down into the distro or if it's short you can use extendible tubes (OCUK only seems to sell this one) but this kind of thing.
