Brightness Problem

Hey all,

Got a small problem with one of the computers at work...

The computer works fine, but the display brightness is way too low to see hardly anything. You can only just about work out what's on the screen.

At first I thought it was a Monitor problem, so I swapped it out with another monitor but it's the same thing. When I turn the monitor on the brightness is fine and I can see the desktop no problem, but after a second or two the brightness changes (or contrast ) and you can't see anything.

I've posted this here, because I know it's not a fault with the monitors, and wondered if anything here knew of a setting I can play around with.

By turning the monitor off and then on again I can change settings as I can the brief second of good brightness to see the screen properly :p

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marky

EDIT: On second thoughts I'll move this as it hasn't got an independent graphics card :p

i guess this isn't the problem but you could first make sure your monitor brightness and contrast are reasonable, and check any other brand specific "special" monitor modes too. after that, your graphics driver options may be set to "correct" your display's gamma or colour in general so you ought to check your intel/amd/nvidia driver settings. finally it could be that you've got a custom monitor colour profile on in windows?

The monitor settings are fine as during the second of good brightness I am able to click up the monitor settings and take a look.

How can I change the gamma setting in Windows? I have a feeling that might be it...

that's odd, usually no matter the brightness settings you can see monitor settings clearly. maybe it IS your monitor(s) but not because they're faulty... :s

anyway for me under windows 7 i right click, resolution, color management, and then play around with those settings? you might need a torch though...
