brightness when connecting an external monitor

hi guys,

when i connect my hdtv to my macbook the brightness on my macbooks screens goes to full. if i turn it down, then unplug the external screen, it also goes back to full. is there any way to stop this? as i have brightness set on low normally.

You could turn off the MacBook screen while you used your HDTV, then simply press F7 when you want it to come back on.

It should come back on at the same brightness unless it's designed to switch to full brightness when using an external display? I don't know for sure.

the thing is it'll go to full brightness as soon as the external display is plugged in or unplugged.

Yes, but if you turn the brightness back down, toggle the MacBook display off and on, what happens?

ok, well 1) it won't turn off the display on the macbook (it just changes the resolution of the external monitor) and 2) when it changes it goes up to full brightness again.

Report it to Apple as a bug.

I'm sure the option is under Apple > Report a Bug, not on a Mac at the moment though.
