So, I'm about to go on a 20 hour coach journey this evening.

Thought I'd plug in my ipod and stick a couple of songs I've bought on it.

itunes asks me to update ipod software to latest, I click ok, and it restores it to factory default....

...except it doesn't do it properly...!!! So. My ipod is now a brick, just before a massive coach journey. I think I'm going to cry.

For anyone who wants to help...

it's an ipod touch, 16gb first get.
itunes is latest version.

when i plug it in and attempt to restore using itunes i get error code 1603. I've tried googling but not much luck.

I've tried this on both my mac (10.5) and PC (W7 64 home). Both give me the same error code.

Aside from going in search of the biggest hammer I can find, is there anything I can do? Any little applications that format my ipod/reset it to default? (I can't see it in disk utility, mac, or disk management, pc)

AAAAAAAARGH!

I know this should be in apple forum but posting here for maximum exposure;)
