Hi all I have not updated my PC for a good 5 months due to a horrible issue with a bum update and having to reflash my SSD from a back up.

But decided I would do it today for some reason, Anyway It's removed the windows 7 gadgets (I had a really nice one) and I'd like them back.

Is there a way since they disabled it?
many thanks

Yeah "security" unfortunately the only way I found was via third party websites(which has got to be less secure). They instal like any normal software but end up in the gadgets area.

So annoying!

I'm on windows 7 buddy
MS removed gadgets in 7 for "security reasons"

I know so install that or : http://nes.bplaced.net/sidebar7.html

I am sure the Win8 one will work, the Win7 one has an actual bar like Vista, the Gadgets are not on Desktop.

You may be able to change these setting but since I have not been on Win7 for a long time I would not know.

I never downloaded more than the ones I had (All CPU meter) and Open hardware monitor. Why would they remove gadgets -.-

Well I tried the 8gadgetpack one but what a surprise "requires win 8 or higher" , don't want a side bar just want my gadgets back.

Thanks though

If you don't use internet explorer uninstall it and roll back to version 8 or 9, anything newer and gadgets don't work. Don't know of any other workarounds.

Edit: Obviously don't do this if you use ie as it'll be a security risk, might be one anyway. I would recommend once rolled back to use turn windows features on or off from control panal > Programs and Features.

some where very handy, had "All CPU monitor" told me my CPU usage, ram usage etc and when I double clicked on it , it would bring up task manager.

a side from that one I don't really care

Edit

If you would like start menu from Win7, theres a free app which works flawlessly for me.

Open the Start Menu and search for "Windows Features". Click on the first result and it should bring up a list of Windows Features.

Does "Windows Gadget Platform" not appear there for you? It does for me.

I have it disabled anyway, I much prefer Rainmeter.
