Bring back old school 3D platformers

lol wut? the controls were on point. if you need further proof go watch the speed runners on twitch.

you can add jetforce gemini to the list of great games from the n64. and pilotwings.

Feeling like you're on ice all the time isn't my idea of 'on point'. Also, just because speedrunners have mastered the controls doesn't mean they're good. People can bat Dark Souls in less than an hour without dying, doesn't mean the game is easy.

I have to disagree with you too, mate. Mario 64 controls almost perfectly.

I still vividly remember playing it for the first time. I was at uni and it floored me. In over 30 years of gaming I can't remember anything as momentous. Mario had jumped out of 2D and there he was, in a proper 3D world. I spent about 30 minutes outside the castle, tiptoeing around, sprinting, sliding, jumping, climbing trees. It's easy to forget just how much of a leap forward Mario 64 was when looking back and it's such a shame Nintendo never really built on from it. They've made great 3D platform games since, and have touched on elements of Mario 64, but have yet to attempt another sandbox, open adventure style platform game. Luckily Rare took on the challenge and for a brief while were every bit as good.

And now Rare suck and Nintendo make very safe 3D platform games that, while super polished and charming, have no ambition in them at all. Make Mario 128 already, Nintendo - it's sorely over due!

Much preferred 2D platformers vs 3D ones TBH. Found 3d ones a little frustrating. Mario 64, never got into it, but loved Super Mario World as a perfect example.

Did enjoy Crash Bandicoot though...

Banjo Kazooie is my all time favourite platformer with Conquers bad fur day a close second.

Been playing Rayman Legends recently as it was free on Live! It is refreshing like seeing an old friend after playing countless FPS for the past ten years.

I recently played my n64 again and picked up some old favourites. I also got banjo which i never played back then, or now (still not tried it)

Wonder if its still good to play or if i missed my chance :D

It's hard to say. Gameplay wise they're rock solid, but it's hard to get beyond the visuals with old 3D games. At least for me. Give it a go anyways - Banjo is easily in the top 3 of adventure platform games.

i loved it to bits, but Banjo Kazooie was a better game in my honest opinion

Spent more time playing Banjo Kazooie, mainly because I owned it and my lent Mario 64 off my friend but I found the camera angles on Banjo Kazooie annoying. Didnt get that issue with Mario 64. Then I picked up Donkey Kong 64, great 3D platformer but the camera angles were the worse I have seen in a game.

I think my favourite was Jak and Daxter. Incredible freedom with no load times/seamless exploration, very good graphics at the time and addictive collectibles.

I grew up on a lot of 2D platformers but by the time 3D ones were about I had lost interest in the genre. They are often the games you think of still when you think about gaming, especially your early days in gaming if you're a bit older.

So it's a shame it's not that popular any more.

I'd prefer metroid style games to pure platformers like

2d or 3d I don't mind. Both have had amazing games, though Galaxy 2 probably tops it for me. Close to perfection that was.

Lately I've really wanted to pick one up again but Ori is MS only and haven't seen a lot else. I should probably play through Guacamelee.
