Bring back the death penalty

The death penalty is not an answer as the only people being punished are those who are left behind, the person being put to death certainly won't be in a position to care. Also, if a mistake is made the court can't exactly hold up it's hands and say "oops, my bad", it would be a bit late at that stage really.

Hard, meaningless labour for the rest of their lives is a punishment, death is an escape.

I guess yes, but then I see taking another persons life - murder - as being the ultimate crime.

What about in war? And as someone else said, what about the executioner? And all the people in the process who aid and abet (abet, is it?) him/her?

I assume you mean the actual definition of murder, which I just googled, it's 'The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.'

Unlawful, this sounds like dodgy ground, would you change you views on a killing act if the law changed? Or do you have your own moralistic definition of murder?
