Bring me up to date I7's and DDR3

I'm looking at upgrading my Asus Rampage Formula X48, 4GB OZC Reaper PC8500 and Q6600 @ 3.6, however I've been out of the hardware loop for some time and would like to be bought up to speed if possible.

I would like to stay with Asus for the MB so I'm thinking the P6T, I doubt I wont see any performance gains paying out double for the Rampage 2 X58? - or is there something way better manufacted elsewhere?

Now the one I dont understand the RAM. Can some-one explain to me why the speeds are DDR3 Tri-channel isnt important? I will be looking at overclocking the I7 920 to 4GHZ (hopefully), can some-one surgest me some ram thatll do this perhaps Viper PC3-12800 or should I just go for some PC3-16000 stuff?

viper or ocz 1600MHz should be good enough - i think 920 needs BCLK at 200mhz to get the 920 at 4ghz, and the ram at pc3-12800/1600mhz, no divider.

correct me if i'm wrong.
