These things worth it? I was looking through the catalogue of a big highstreet store today and saw a few half decent ones going for under £30. I was bored and wanted to buy something pointless so it was either a breadmaker or a water filter :p

Anyway, do they really make a difference? The one I was looking at came with a years worth of filters free too.

Totally depends on what your waters like to be honest mate.

When I lived down uni the water was terrible... by terrible I mean it wasn't even clear - it was cloudy. The filters made a massive difference to its complexion, and taste. Was much cleaner if you know what I mean.

However, at home the waters fine. Brita filter doesn't make any difference really... more of an inconveniance whereas at uni it was a must.

Definatly worth it.

The water ( tap ) here is awful, hard water/limescale etc..

Been using a Brita for 3 years + it makes a great difference.

Buy one that fits in the fridge shelf.

But buy " generic " filters after yours run out , Asda etc.

Yeah my Dad as one at home and I thought it was a con but after drinking a cuppa coffee at my sisters who lives down the road you can really taste the difference!

we have a Britta kettle and its pretty mint
our area is bad for limescale and it hasn't touched this kettle we have had it for 2 years now

only problem is making drinks takes ages when its empty
you have to let the water filter before boiling it

other than that its great
oh and drinks taste as they should as well you can see the bottom of the cup with tea its so clear

edit: we use tesco's own filters
and at the moment come with a free filter jug :D

Ta for the replies peeps :) The one I'm after is a 1.5L jug that can fit in the fridge door as mentioned. How long does it take to filter the water once I've added it btw?

Yeah I highly recommend them we have cloudy water here but Brita sorts that out. Takes a few minutes to filter through, just a case of topping it up every few glasses

I found some of the replacement filters made the water taste different but I didn't like it. The Britta originals are far better.

Not very long but it's a long time if you wait and look at it :p 3-5 minutes to fill it up completely?

Am I the only one who likes the taste of water with all the crap in it?

Tried water that had been filtered and it was horrible.

Often you get used to a certain type of water - many people in foreign countries, with water we find disgusting would find ours equally repulsive.

we filter our water as it tastes like crap here otherwise, tea is a diff colour etc, but if I'm just drinking water without anything I'll drink vital etc

Cheers peeps :) Over here in Middlesex you can literally smell the chlorine when you fill your glass with water. Never liked that :/

Plus with Brita wayer filters you have the privilege of being able to say-

"Wrong, it's MY lovely cup of tea". :p

my sister lives in bristol and i refuse to drink anything thats not bottled (and im not stuck up or anything like that :)) its just minging, tea has floating bits in it and feels really 'thin'

brita makes a big difference, if you need it :)

Used to make me gag when I brushed my teeth. :(

Think I'll buy a Brita water filter.

Never had a problem with the water here in Manchester, its always crystal clear and tastes just as good as bottled stuff. It has had a slight emall of chlorine in recent months though, but it doesn't seem to have changed its taste so I am not too bothered.

My relatives in Canada on the other hand pretty much live from the Brita filter. They live in a hard water area and although they have a water softener in the basement the kitchen tap is bypassed as the salt in the softener is not good for cooking, so they use an under the sink Brita filter thing. The filter is changed once a month or so and its near to black when it comes out with all kinda of strange bits in it! Pretty good stuff!

Who uses the filter water in their kettles to make coffee/tea. I found that using tap water after a week or so that theres limescale flakes floating in the water. Don't want to drink that.
