So, I just bought a ticket to travel and due to the fact I have a middle name in my passport, it can make things a bit weird knowing exactly where to fill it in when booking.

So, imagine my name is Bob Jake Jones (Which it isn't :P)

I would assume that I would be Mr Jones, but on my "Manage my booking" page on the ba.com website I'm listed as Mr Jakejones
However in the email I was sent upon booking, it called me Mr Jones.

So I contacted customer support (apparently in India) and the lady there assured me several times that it was 110% fine and everything was good to go.

I just don't think I believe her. It seems weird.
Does anyone here who travels a lot have any experience or knowledge about this?

- Cheers

You'll be fine. My travel agent through work books my tickets in a strange way so it appears as Mr MiddleNameSurname and I've had no issues with any of the US airlines I've used.

As above, don't worry, BA (and several different airlines) have done this to me a bunch of times, it usually only happens on the ticket or boarding pass - just ignore it.

Went through a minor panic like this last year when booking through Emirates. Clearly says fill in names the same as the passport but then the booking was made as firstnamemiddlename lastname. Called Emirates who said it would be fine, and it was.

BA Conditions of Carriage are here....

https://www.britishairways.com/en-g...ritish-airways/general-conditions-of-carriage.

It basically says that the ticket must be in your name and you must be able to prove that it is your name.

If your passport has Bob Jake Jones and your boarding pass has JakeJones that will be fine.

If your passport doesn't have your middle name then that would be more of an issue but I assume it does. The spacing won't matter as long as a human can see what's happening.

It's a common problem when creating databases for use with multinational corps.

You'd think First Name/Middle Names/Last Name would cover everything - but it barely copes with the english speaking world.

It becomes more apparent how much of a problem it is when you're having to work alongside legacy systems where even a field for middle names is sometimes neglected. Where as the website might have let you enter a "middle name", to make you feel better, ultimately it gets mashed together behind the scenes so that the old dot matrix printer can print out your boarding pass.

It's a common workaround to simply mash them all together.

Like others say, as long as it isn't spelt incorrectly you'll likely be fine.

I travel a lot, and my name is constantly like that with the compressed middle/last name. Throw in to the mix the random use of my birth spelling of my first name (c instead of k).... and I've never had an issue.

I've flown into the states quite a lot - it won't be an issue. If you're worried, take a print out of the email that confirms your booking.

Thanks for all the replies :)
I feel a bit better about the whole thing now.
I just don't recall seeing this in the past which is why it stood out as weird to me.

I suspect in the past I probably lumped my middle name in with my first name, so I would have been Mr Bobjake Jones, instead of now being Mr Bob Jakejones.
Hahaha

Well, fingers crossed I encounter no shennanigans when I fly home at crimbo. :D

If anyone ever questioned why your passport has an extra name on it that isn't on your boarding card. Well for one they should know, but refer them to ICAO Document 9944. Watch there face drop. Lol

I feel that that's not the issue.

In this scenario, my surname is Jones in my passport. But my ticket says my surname is Jakejones. I was worried that because they're 'different' there would be problems.
But it seems from the numerous replies above that it should all be ok :)

After I got married I booked a ticket for my wife with her new surname but she hadn't yet updated her passport. BA quoted me about 30p in fees to change the name. If you really are worried I would call back and ask them to amend the booking. If the ticket booking is within 24 hours you can also cancel the ticket without a penalty and rebook.
