A Briton living in New Zealand has suffered a bizarre injury after he was impaled by his laptop computer.

anyone think that he didn't just place the disk in and close and instead forced it closed with all his might while it was jammed and then it gave leaving the stuck piece to force his hand onto?

"It’s PC gone mad!" Ha!

I can't see how there would be anything in there that could possibly shoot something out at that kind of speed, they're usually pretty weak.

I just can't see how it could have happened, given the components that are inside the drive itself, how could it have shot the bar with enough force to pierce his hand?
Think I'll go along with Tefals thoughts on this, he closed the drive with far too much force and pushed his hand into the bar.

Think I'll stick with slot loading though. :D

I can imagine the call coming through to the Helpdesk now!

Echoing the above, surely he put the disc in and rammed it pretty hard causing the disc to dislodge a piece that rather than 'flew out' more jutted out to meet the full force of his hand impacting the laptop?

I've actually had this happen on someone's laptop before

I closed the drawer, then the facia snapped off and the drawer rail was sticking out of the laptop

Must have gotten jammed up inside, some dvd drives are super cheap things, pushing it in with more force on one side could easily bend the rail enough for it to 'catch'

Luckily, I didn't use terminator strength to close it like this guy seems to have done and as a result, wasn't impaled :D

There is no way in hell that this 'fired out' as it says in the article, it simply got stuck and physics did the rest
