For those that are not aware, this year was the 50 year anniversary of Graham Hill winning the 1962 Formula One World Championship with the BRM team from a sleepy little town in Lincolnshire. BRM were based in Bourne, Lincolnshire and claimed a few titles for themselves.
To celebrate the day and the life of Graham Hill, the town and historic car clubs put on a bit of a show. The day involved the closing of the 4 main roads in town, 28000 standing visitors and processions of both historic classic cars and classic racing cars through the town. There were also a number of static displays including Damon Hill's 1996 winning F1 car and what appeared to be Sebastian Vettel's RB7.
Damon Hill and Sir Jackie Stewart attended the day and Damon drove his dad's winning BRM F1 car through the streets. The day also saw Sir Jackie driving his old Tyrrel and making as much noise as he possibly could.
As another show piece, we were treated to the entire 1962 starting grid doing processions through the town.
The sound of V8s, V12s and a V16 sang out through the day and the smell of Castrol R was strong.
The moving displays and demonstrations took place from 10am til 16:30 and will be remembered for a long time.
For a few official pictures have a look at http://brmday.co.uk/gallery.html.
I will upload a video of the 1962 grid procession led by Damon in his dad's car but as my camera batteries failed to charge the night before I had to resort to a mobile! A friend of mine did have a decent camera with him and I will ask him to upload some decent photo's from the day.
If you knew about the event before hand and managed to make it down then I hope you can share any photo's you took. If you didn't then enjoy the content and memories celebrating the first British F1 World Champion and F1 World Constructors combo.
