Hi there

Anyone know how I can find the details of my line to check the noise?

I am with O2 and using a Wireless box ii, I think it's a thompson one.

Used to be able to use Superuser and O2Br0ad64nd (something like that) but that doesnt seem to be working.

Thanks

Ok got it:

How does this look:

Uptime: 0 days, 0:22:19

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,239 / 10,353

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,243 / 8,187

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.5 / 43.5

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 6.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 11 / 8,945

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 11 / 4

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 308,566 / 4

Currently getting: Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,243 / 8,187

Seems about right to me but I know very little on the subject :)

Edit: Just noticed this Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,244 / 10,375

You're already synced at 10,353.

No, he's synced at 8Mb

IIRC the figure for maximum bandwidth is if you were running with zero noise margin. You currently have a 6.5dB margin, and I wouldn't want to lower it below 3dB for stability reasons.

You'll have to look around to see if you can set custom noise margins on your router. To be honest though it's probably not worth the effort, you'd only gain around 1Mb and the line would be more susceptible to noise meaning more frequent drop outs.

LoL I didn't see the 8mb bit :D

hmmm 8187 seems to be a sync limit on the line, are you on a package that allows more than 8mb?

Not sure. I am on the standard O2 one before their changes.

If it means that to go higher I would have to change contracts then I will stick as I am. At the moment I am only paying about £8 per month with unlimited.

If I change I will have to pay twice that for only an extra 2mb or so and get capped.

So my line will give a max of 10mb if the contract allowed it? (For future reference)
