hey guys n gals,

thinking of upgrading to 20mbps with o2's new offer. Currently i'm on 8mbps and i get about 6.5mbps in my room via wireless. My question is, will it actually be any quicker, and how do i check the maximum speed i can get?

Thanks!

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 8187 kbps 1248 kbps

Line Attenuation 42.0 db 24.3 db

Noise Margin 8.4 db 6.2 db

would altering the snr ratio make any improvements? The site says i might get 9500, though it's sort of confusing me.

am i right in assuming that line attenuation is the most important thing, and that this is down to the distance from the exchange and the quality of the line?

edit: by rough, how rough do you mean, could it be 1mbps either way or more?

No, you will probs not receive much of a boost. Maybe sync at 9-10meg and get 8-9meg throughput.

You pretty much must be connected via ADSL2+ already to get 8Mbit with that attenuation - with 42db attenuation your maxing out at around 9Mbit at the very max.

ah fair enough, are lines updated much in terms of quality? or is it the wiring in my own house?

also, any ideas if the wireless box 3 is any good?
