Hi everyone. I'm moving out of my current flat, and have a gap of about 6 weeks before moving into my next one, during which time I'll be staying with family.

My broadband is on a 12 month contract with Vodafone. I'm happy to keep paying for it during the 6 weeks when I won't need it, but does anyone know whether that works? Or do they need me to give them an address to point the connection at? I don't want them to make me cancel the contract, as I'll need it again in a few weeks time

Do you know if anybody is moving into your flat straight away? If you wanted to be a complete pain to whoever moves in you could just leave your Vodafone service active in the flat, and then when you get emails from Vodafone saying that someone has ordered a service and it will trigger early termination charges, get in touch with them and say that isn't true, and they will reject the line takeover request. Do this until you have a new address and then start the process of moving the service.

How can you be sure that the gap is going to be six weeks without having the address of the new home confirmed?

Yeah, they're moving in the day I leave. I'm not sure I can really do that to them unfortunately!

It's pretty likely that I'll be in in 6 weeks or so, but not definite

They might be able to put it on a temporary address, such as your parents, in a hybernated state.

I can't remember which, but an ISP has offered this to me before.

doesnt moving address make a new contract? moved house with bt a few months ago and have seen that theres been a new contract put on there, not sure if its the same for vodafone though

Not sure, I'm fine for them to extend the contract, I just don't want them saying that I have to cancel and then pay for the privilege.

Hopefully they can hibernate it or something!

If you know them you could maybe allow them to 'borrow' the internet for 6 weeks until you move... pretty sure it would take a few days for them to get new internet etc set up when they move in so they might appreciate the 'free' use for a few weeks (if you leave router you could set firewall rules to prevent 'bad usage').

I'd also say give vodafone a ring, they'll likely be able to give you better options than we can.
