Hi guys, I need some help. As above I dont know much about broadband or ISPs.

My situation; going to moving into a new flat (renting) in August and looking to get broadband. I know it has a BT landline but it is NOT activated. My mate, who will be moving in too, already has BT option 1 where he is paying c. £24/month. (he actually lives in the same building and his contract is due to expire by then anyway).

My needs are quite simple, ideally would love unlimited broadband and price wise we want to keep it at max of £25/month. No need to TV, landline and calls could be included if theres any deals out there, but no need in particular.

Samknows; results;

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU

Cable not available

FTTC is not yet available in your area

AOL is not yet available in your area
O2 / Be Unlimited is not yet available in your area
Edge Telecom is not yet available in your area
Entanet is not yet available in your area
Lumison is not yet available in your area
Newnet is not yet available in your area
Node4 is not yet available in your area
Pipex is not yet available in your area
Smallworld Media is not yet available in your area
Tiscali is not yet available in your area
Tiscali TV is not yet available in your area
Orange is not yet available in your area
WB Internet is not yet available in your area
Zen is not yet available in your area

Which would be the best to go for; I really know next to nothing about ADSL v SDSL v LLU, although Ive done a wee bit reading and LLU is better is it?

The midland exchange is located 0.6km as the crow flies.

I think the option I am leaning towards is SKY BROADBAND UNLIMITED
& SKY TALK (which comes to £21/month), this includes line rental from sky themseleves.

Any thoughts, suggestions, greatly appreciated.

Thanks Swifty55, you certainly live up to your name!

So would I be correct in assuming Sky Everyday/Unlimited = LLU
How will LLU service from sky compare BT option 1?
It claims to be upto 20mps, what speeds could I resonably expect, as stated only 0.6km from the exchange, but it is in Birmingham City Centre?

I'd go Sky too, already did and happy with service. Almost truly unlimited broadband. Router arrives set up for you, all you do is plug in and get started. Everyday is a limited download quota service. You will need to check with Sky whether they have spare LLU availability at your exchange as the Sky connect service is pants as it's provided by BT.

I don't like Talk Talk because they keep hanging out in my local shop and pestering me.

No idea what Bulldog is like.

Avoid BT, it's expensive and restricted.

ok so I think its going to be sky. I've just found out my landlord won't allow sky to fit their landline. As I said before its got a deactivated bt line. so my question, is there any difference in getting sky unlimited through the bt line. is it still the same getting LLU from sky?

Makes no difference, apart from cost. Thankfully Sky do not require you to have line rental from them.

BT line here with Sky LLU broadband.

Excellent, thanks for the quick replay. Any idea on price to reactivate at BT landline. Spoke to sky and said it would be in the region of 130 quid...surely not?!

Depends on what BT say I suppose.

They'll probably offer you a deal where you pay less (maybe £30) and sign up for their BB for 18 months.

The connection charge is being bandied about recently, a while back BT offered it for free provided you stayed with their line rental for 12 months, now things are changing.

See how you get on.

Re-activation shouldn't cost anything, unless you have wiring faults or a faceplate needing fitting or something.
