Broadband PC problem?

Hi, just after a little advice. I have just had a BT engineer here as my broadband service (up to 8MB) has been ridiculously slow for the last fortnight - 230k downstream etc. He tested the line which came in at 4000k which seems right, yet my PC/Router (voyager 205) still remains at 230. He says he has done his bit and it must be a PC problem. I tried the home hub and that produces blistering 16kbps downloads.
I have no idea what it could be as I feel I have tried everything to resolve this. Any ideas please.

Tested the line with what?
What does your modem say it's connected at?
What is your IP profile set to (BT Speedtest will display it, see sticky for instructions)?

Thanks for you reply Tolien.
I've just been 'remotely controlled' by one of the BT helpdesk people whio tells me that:
my hub is reading - 4,768kbps
the assured rate for my IP profile on this line is - 130kbps

He says this has been set wrong and will get onto my exchange tomorrow and get them to 'turn it up' to the correct rate. Why after a year of the correct rate would they have turned it down to such a low speed then?

Just got BT Vision?
Either that, or your modem disconnected and reconnected at a low enough sync rate to trigger that drop.

yeh, they will do their bit at the exchange and tehn if you have left your router plugged in for 2-3 days, it will re-sync itself to the max speed. Just gotta be patient mate. IF you feel like searching you will see that i had this very problem some 4 months ago
