Hi guys,

I have been on Sky Broadband 8mb for about 4 months now and i have got to say, Touch Wood... Its amazing!

Im getting excellent download speeds and it always seem to be smooth!

So i recommended my boss to Sky tele and Sky internet.

Her internet is now activated so i went round to set it up for her and it was running fine. However at first all 3 green lights were on and the computer was connected wireless to the router but.... the internet wasnt working. The computer thought it was connected to the internet and everything was green with full bars etc. I logged into the router and checked the status of the connection and it said it was connected with Sky. Hmmmm.....

So i thought ahhh maybe the wireless maybe a little faulty or something so i connected to the router with the ethernet cable provided. Once again the computer thought it was connected to the net and the virus scanner tried updating itself but failed. So i restarted the computer and restarted the router. After they both started up the router had 2 green lights and one amber. So i connected wirelessly to the router and logged into it. All the lights went green and i checked the connection status with Sky. It said Connected like last time.

I opened internet explorer and the web was working!

Ive come into work two days later and my boss said she cant get on. Everything is green and the computer has full bars. Shes tried restarting the router and the computer but still no joy. However my net was fine last night and i was on all night downloading and gaming etc.

The only difference is she has 2mb inet (had it 2 days) and i have 8mb unlimited inet.

Can anyone explain this?

Possibly the Virgin DNS servers going down?? (needed by the computer to resolve websites).

Is there any additional internet security software on the laptop, e.g. Norton, that has its own firewall and could be playing up??

sometimes you have to wait a week or so for the connection to stabilise at the new speed. Might be trying to connect too fast and is scaling it back slowly.

For starters, try it wired - wireless adds an extra layer of complication that you don't need.
Secondly, look in the router's web interface - it should give information about to what extent it's connected.

cheers for that but as i have said regardless if its wired or wireless it still fails every so often. Touch wood its fine now over the weekend she said. So maybe its because shes new... who knows.

Ill keep you all posted.
